Dr Alejandra Izurieta
Specialist Obstetrician and Gynaecologist
I believe that the trust you build with your doctor plays an important part in your treatment, allowing us to personalise your care and empowering you to understand your options. I will endeavour to ensure you feel heard in your concerns, safe in my hands and respected as a woman.
I am a specialist obstetrician and gynaecologist with a focus on fertility, miscarriage and reproductive endocrinology from adolescence to menopause able to provide expert continuity of care from conception to the delivery of your baby.
Starting my training with a Bachelor of Science in Anatomy from the University of New South Wales, I proceeded to my Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery from the University of Sydney. I subsequently completed my specialist and subspecialist training at St George Hospital, IVF Australia and the Royal Hospital for Women.
Education, service and commitment have underpinned appointments as a staff specialist at the Royal Hospital for women, where I was responsible for the coordination of the GP antenatal shared care program and the postgraduate educational program for GPs practicing women’s health in the community. I am currently a conjoint lecturer and examiner at UNSW involved with the teaching, training and mentoring of undergraduate and postgraduate students. I pride myself on a dynamic approach to teaching.
A mum to two beautiful girls, I understand the pressures of balancing work and family, of setting goals and striving to attain them, and of never losing sight of your dreams. Be it in my career or hobbies, I value this philosophy, although I still fall flat on my face when flamenco dancing, running or training – my passions! Being a mum has taught me the importance of commitment and dedication, discipline and patience, and setting an example through your actions as well as your words.
